enjoyed a little walk this late afternoon.  Something we do often but haven’t in a while due to being busy and poor weather.  Love these littles and the gorgeous place we live.  I can never pass up an opportunity to get a silhouette, either.

baby I

This last weekend I was able to be at the birth of a sweet baby boy in the area – the moment I heard she was in labor I found myself feeling excited to photograph and witness another birth.

I arrived at the hospital just under an hour before he was born – his mama did an incredible job birthing and welcoming this cute squishy baby into the world.

5 minute project

I recently stumbled on the 5 minute project website and while I didn’t submit any photos, I felt inspired to just grab my camera and for five minutes, take pictures of whatever happened to be going on.  Basket of clothes ready to be folded and children reading books, I decided to break out my camera and just capture a simple normal 5 minutes at home.DSC_0542DSC_0548It started innocently enough, until I was noticed…DSC_0546…and soon jumping across the tile “lava” between rugs began.

I felt energized after taking a step out of the mundane and looking through a different lens for just a matter of minutes and inspired to pull my camera out more often on just normal days.

fall + tutu

Even though it has been much colder lately, I am so thankful for the clear, dry weather we have been having, because we have been able to get outdoors more.  Today after a picnic at the beach, we came home and I was so glad I had my camera on hand to get these pictures of Hailey playing outside.

She has been picking out all of her outfits lately, and her “ballet outfit” has been the most popular, along with being a “pink girl”.  I love this girl and her funny personality.  She is growing so quickly.

There is nothing quite like seeing the wonder and joy a child finds in the simplest of things.

Joel {birth and newborn}

This past week, I had the amazing honor of being at the birth of my sister’s first baby.

dsc_0017I had spoken with her that afternoon and she told me she had been having uncomfortable contractions throughout the day, and thought she was probably in early labor.  I told I would keep my phone near by, but I honestly did not think things were going to happen as quickly as they did!  Her water broke around 9 that evening, and they were on their way to the birthing center by 10:30.  I got the message late and rushed out, thankfully in time to document a little bit of her labor and capture Joel’s entrance to the world at 1:48am the following morning.dsc_0026

Kaitie did amazing and these pictures do not do her justice, even so, in their imperfections, they are here to share.  She was surrounded by an incredible birth support team, including her husband who was there for her the entire way, as she used all her strength to bring her sweet boy here.

I was back home by 5:30 in the morning and rested for a couple of hours before starting my day.  It is amazing how the lack of sleep doesn’t matter to me at all (although I was very happy to climb into bed that evening), because even that next day I felt myself being propelled by the same excitement and adrenaline of the night before.  Maybe this wears off over time, but I love it right now.

I was able to come back over the weekend and not only hold my beautiful new nephew while chatting with my sister and brother-in-law, but also have some fun snapping pictures of their new family in their home.
